Tonight I was blithely going about my business – helping the boys with homework, fielding random phone calls, thinking about what I would blog about this evening, wishing for this 10-day smoothie detox to be OVER (we’ll blog about that later in the week) – when a friend sent me a text. It was serious, so I texted her back and she started sharing the details. When she was finished, I literally had to sit down.
Just last week, she and I were happily joking about the things going on in our lives, and today it’s like – bam! Those things seem so inconsequential now.
Over the past few months, several of my girlfriends have been going through some serious, this-is-no-joke kind of stuff. And I am amazed by their strength. I have seen them discouraged. I have seen them wondering, “Why is this happening to me?” I have seen them not want to get out of bed. But I have seen them get up and go to work. I have seen them get up and interact with the world when all they wanted to do was curl up and cry. I have seen them walk into situations that were painful for them because of what they were dealing with, and deal with the situations so that no one had any clue that they were tearing up inside.
Life knocked them down. But they have gotten up and kept going. And I am PROUD of them.
